Q-LIT FESTIVAL

20th - 28th June 2025

FAQ

What is the Q-Lit Festival

The festival is a multi-day celebration of queer literature, storytelling, and ideas, featuring panels, performances, workshops, a book fair, and more. We platform LGBTQIA+ writers, readers, thinkers, and communities from across Australia.

When and where is the festival?

Q-Lit runs from 20 - 28 June 2025 in venues across Melbourne. We've grouped events for specific audience interests and we've aimed to host events in various LGBTQIA+ hubs in and around the city.

Who is Q-Lit for?

Q-Lit is for LGBTQIA+ readers, writers, and allies of all ages. Whether you’re a bookworm, a poet, a first-time writer, or simply curious, there’s something for you at Q-Lit.
You don't have to be from the LGBTQIA+ community to attend! We encourage all allies to join in the celebration of queer storytelling.

How do tickets work?

We require bookings to gauge numbers ahead of events and to advise guests if there are any safety concerns in the lead up to the event.
There are 4 ticket options that are all treated equally at the event. The free option allows anyone to attend, the two paid options help us continue as an organisation and the Auslan option will notify us that interpretation services are required for that event.

Are the events accessible?

All spaces are wheelchair accessible with accessible toilets and step free access.
All spaces have a quiet space and social stories are available on each events website listing.
Auslan interpretation is available at all events and will automatically be booked if an Auslan ticket is purchased.
If you have specific needs please email timothyryan@scratcharts.com

Can I volunteer?

Yes, please! Volunteers are the heart of Q-Lit. You can sign up here, and let us know your availability and what you’re interested in helping with: front-of-house, artist support, connection crew, tech, and more.

Opening Gala - Alcohol available
Day of Books - Tea and coffee available
Masterclass Series - Cafe on site
Researching Our Culture - Water available
Storytellers Night - Alcohol available
Comedy Sesh - Alcohol available

Is the festival kid-friendly?

The Day of Books at the Pride Centre is our all ages event. All other events throughout the festival will require that someone under the age of 18 be accompanied by an adult.

What’s the best way to stay up to date?

Join our mailing list, follow us on Instagram and Facebook, and check out our festival website for the latest updates, schedule changes, and special announcements.

Will there be books for sale?

Yes! We're teaming up with Hares and Hyenas to have books available for purchase at all of our events.
Our Day of Books features a book fair with local LGBTQIA+ writers, publishers, and zine-makers.
If you would like to sell books that you have written please fill out this application form to host a stall at our Day of Books.

Can I submit a book for the “Books That Shaped Generations” panel?

Yes! We're running a community survey in the lead-up to the festival. Submit your favourite queer book and help shape the panel conversation. Follow this link.

I'm coming alone how can I best meet people?

We'll have a team of Bookmark Buddies at all events. Their role will be to help people feel welcome and foster new connections. Keep an eye out for them, they'll be easy to spot!
